Colouring Tutorial - Step 3.4

FULL VIEW PLEASE

Due to scanning, there is a bit of colour shift.

Next I've laid down a light layer of Ultramarine to define the darkest values. I've gone over the Orange, Deco Yellow and Tuscan Red from the previous steps. I'm still preserving as much of my white space as possible. The dark values have brought out the anatomy a lot more, giving me a better "map" for future layers of colour.

Be careful not to bring too much Ultramarine into the Deco Yellow, otherwise you'll end up with too much of a green undertone. This is fine if that's your desired result, but here I want the skin to appear as natural as possible.

Nice... the blued shadows will show up well and seem very natural once the skin tones are in. So far you've used primaries and one secondary so well.
